World Book Day 2026 is on Thursday 5 March
A selection of WBD £1 books by favourite authors is now available in the shop for children of all ages. 'Bear Rescue' by Hannah Gold follows on from her arctic adventures that began with 'Last Bear', and A. F. Steadman's 'Skandar and the Secret Element' will appeal to fans of this popular fantasy hero. For comic book lovers, we have 'Total Chaos' from best-selling Jamie Smart's Bunny vs Monkey series and 'The Castle Quest' from Sheena Dempsey's Pablo and Splash penguin adventures. For footie enthusiasts, from his Unbelievable Football series, we have Matt Oldfield's 'The Most Amazing World Cup Stories You Never Knew', and for unicorn fans 'My Secret Unicorn Diary'. Lastly, for your youngest there is Peppa Pig's wonderful 'One Big Family'. Please do come and visit us and swap your WBD tokens for any of these great new stories. |

SEPTEMBER 2025
On a beautifully sunny, September morning, we welcomed Clare Balding, one of our best-loved TV personalities, to the bookshop. She arrived accompanied by furry friends and their owners, all keen to meet Clare and get a signed copy of her debut novel 'Pastures New', described as 'the reading equivalent of snuggling by the fire with a Labrador'. It was a popular event, which began with a dog walk, across the Common from Cart-on-the-Common near the Windmill.

JULY 2025
During the first week of the Wimbledon Championships, we were delighted to have a visit from Judy Murray, who signed copies of her new murder mystery novel 'Game, Set & Murder', recommended by Sue Barker as 'the perfect summer read!' We had many happy customers, pleased to meet the author and get copies of the book signed and dedicated. |
